Almost readyAn app for Belgian home-based childcare providers (onthaalouders) and the parents of the children in their care. Log daily activities, chat with parents, share photos and auto-generate monthly invoices — all in one tool that works on phone and laptop alike.
Approach
The idea came from childcare providers who couldn't find a tool that actually matched the way they work. From first sketch to launch I worked closely with them: their daily structure, their frustrations with existing solutions, and what parents actually want to know about their child. Design, development, hosting and maintenance are all in my hands — the same end-to-end approach Blue Bear offers other clients.

About me.
I'm Bjorn Derudder — software engineer with over ten years of experience in .NET and Microsoft Azure. What started as consultancy for larger companies became Blue Bear: a one-person studio for websites that actually need to work.
At Blue Bear you work directly with me. I design your site, build it and maintain it. If something's up, I pick up.

What does it cost to have a website built for a non-profit or SME?
A simple business site typically starts around €2,000 to €3,000. Larger sites with a custom CMS or a big editorial team go higher — depending on scope, complexity and page count. Because every project is different, I don't work with fixed packages. Send a short description of what you have in mind and I'll reply within 2 working days with a price indication. Once we've defined the scope together, you'll get a fixed quote for the agreed work — changes along the way are always open for discussion.
How long does it take to build a website?
Around 2 to 4 weeks for a simple site. 6 to 10 weeks for a larger site with a custom CMS. A lot depends on how quickly you provide feedback and content — I work in iterations so you see something concrete every week, not only at the end.
What's the difference between WordPress and a custom CMS?
WordPress is faster to launch, but you're stuck with plugins, updates and a slow admin panel. A custom CMS is built around your specific flow — e.g. volunteers who can only add events, or a team of editors who must work without training. For organisations with a more complex structure, custom is usually cheaper in the long run.
Can you take over an existing website for maintenance?
Yes, that's a big part of what Blue Bear does. I audit your current site, take over hosting (or leave it where it is), and provide monthly updates, monitoring, and a fast reply when something seems broken. No ticket system, no hold music.
What technology do you use?
For websites: Next.js, React and Tailwind. For custom software and APIs: .NET and Microsoft Azure. For CMS: WordPress when you want the classic route, or fully custom in .NET when your editorial flow calls for it. The choice depends on what your organisation actually needs, not on what I prefer to work with.
Do you also build custom software, beyond websites?
Yes. I'm a software engineer with over ten years of experience in .NET and Azure. Alongside websites I build internal business applications, API integrations between existing systems, and custom cloud architecture.
What about hosting and the domain?
I handle the full technical package: domain registration, hosting on Microsoft Azure, SSL certificates, backups and monitoring. One invoice, one point of contact. Or if you'd rather keep your domain with your current registrar, that works too — I'm flexible.
